STROUTH, Elsie Sartin, 83, of Salem, passed away Sunday, April 21, 1996. She was born at Eggleston, Va., Giles County on November 28, 1912. She was a retired employee of Skyline Cleaners in Salem for 35 years. She was the widow of the late Clarence M. (Buster) Strouth and the daughter of the late Hughie P. and Flora Burton Sartin. She is also preceded in death by a granddaughter, a great-granddaughter, four sisters and five brothers. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Clarence M. (Kenny) and Sally M. Strouth; five grandsons, Tony Lee Strouth, Salem, Johnny Ray, James Arnold, Kenneth Allan Strouth, all of Maryland; also a foster grandson, David Thompson, of Maryland; three great-grandsons, Johnny Ray Jr., Jerry Lee and Daniel Strouth, all of Maryland; two great-granddaughters, Ashley Nicole Strouth, of Maryland and April Amanda Strouth, Salem; two special friends, Sherry Chandler and Diane Hill; also a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 11 am. on Thursday at the John M. Oakey and Son Funeral Home Chapel, Salem with the Rev. Floyd B'Hymer officiating. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

--Elsie and Buster lived in Salem Virginia.
--They mostly rented in Salem. Mary thinks they lived on Colorado Street (she knows the exact house, but is unsure of the street name). After Buster died, Elsie and her son bought a house near Roanoke-Salem Plaza.
--Elsie was a tiny lady. She worked at Peacock Laundry in Salem for more than 40 years. Mary remembers her always having a lot of knick knacks on her walls.
--Buster worked for the City of Salem.
--One of Elsie's sons had 4-5 children.
--Buster and a bunch of his brothers and sisters died of heart issues.

Mary thought they were buried at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem.
