College Football Coach. He was the head football coach at the University of Virginia from 1965 to 1970. Prior to assuming the the head coaching duties at Virginia, he was the head football coach at Miami University of Ohio in 1948 and the head football coach at the University of Cincinnati from 1955 to 1960. He also served as an assistant coach at Army in 1954 before accepting the head coaching position at the University of Cincinnati. He was named Atlantic Coast Conference Football "Coach of the Year" in 1968, leading the Virginia Cavaliers to a seven and three won-loss record in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and a third place overall finish. During his brief coaching stay at Miami University, he compiled a seven win, one loss and one tie record, leading the Redhawks to the Mid-American Conference Title Championship. Following his college coaching career he worked as a scout in the National Football League (NFL) for the New Orleans Saints, Houston Oilers and New England Patriots. He died in an Ohio retirement center at the age of 93 from undisclosed causes.
