Daughter of German parents John and Mary Ann (Deck) Abele, Sister Mary Ephrem Abele, O.S.F., was a member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia in Aston, Pennsylvania. She came to America in 1873, and after entering the convent, she served for some years at St. Joseph's Hospital in Baltimore, MD. In her later years, she served at Our Lady of Angels Convent in Aston, where she died in 1933, age 78.
