Herald Coaster, April 22, 1973:

A head-on crash two miles east of Orchard on State Highway 36 claimed four lives Friday. Two people hurt in the accident, which happened at about 7:20 p.m., remain in critical condition.

Dead are Tommie Lee Webb, 27, of Route 1, Rosenberg; his wife, Betty Jean Kucera Webb, 30; their daughter, Lorie, six, who died in Ben Taub Hospital in Houston at 11:10 p.m., and Evelyn Marie Kucera, 16, of East Bernard.

Miss Kucera, who was not related to Mrs. Webb, was a passenger in the car driven by Gary Wayne Sutton, 19, also of East Bernard. Sutton, who suffered head, chest and leg injuries, was taken to Polly Ryon Hospital and then transferred to Hermann Hospital in Houston.

Another daughter to the Webbs, Debbie, 13, received head and chest injuries and was transferred to Ben Taub Hospital in Houston.

Investigating the accident are DPS Patrolmen Robert Madeira and Dennis Mitchell. According to Patrolman Madeira, the car driven by Webb was headed west when it collided with the car driven by Sutton, who was traveling east. A witness, who was traveling behind the Sutton car, said that for no apparent reason the car driven by Webb swerved to the wrong side of the road and the two vehicles met head-on, according to Patrolman Madeira.

Webb, a refrigeration technician, was a brother of Travis E. Webb, a patrolman with the Department of Public Safety, who was stationed here several years ago and who is now at Fort Worth.

Funeral services for Miss Kucera will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday from the Holy Cross Catholic Church in East Bernard with Msgr. John Kukral officiating. Interment will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery.

Rosary will be held at 8:30 p.m. Saturday in the Triska Funeral Home Chapel in East Bernard. Friends may call after 5 p.m. at the Triska Chapel.

Miss Kucera, a lifelong resident of East Bernard, was a student at East Bernard High School. She was active in the KJZT, CYO and FHA.

Survivors include her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Pete Kucera; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Ann Wade of Fulshear and Mrs. Theresa Kettler of Rosenberg; four brothers, Victor of Rosenberg, Tom and Jerome of East Bernard, and Peter of Edna; and her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Rejsek of East Bernard.
