SHIRLEY -- John H. Farrar Jr., 82, of Shirley, died Wednesday, February 18, 2015, at his residence. He was predeceased by his wife, Pauline H. (Dimitruk) Farrar in 2008.

Jack was born in Fitchburg, November 29, 1932, a son of the late John H. and Ethel (Holden) Farrar and was a lifelong Shirley resident.

Jack was a 1950 graduate of Ayer High School and then continued his education at Fitchburg State College. He served his country in the United States Navy.

For over 20 years, Jack worked as an assistant director at the Department of Youth Services in Concord, retiring in the late 1980's.

An avid outdoorsman, Jack's many interests included hunting, fishing, golfing, gardening and training hunting dogs. He was a life member of the Shirley Rod & Gun Club and served on the Board of Directors. He was one of the first local individuals to volunteer with Massachusetts Wildlife, involved in the paraplegic and outdoor women's hunting programs.

He leaves three daughters, Victoria L. Farrar of Shirley, Pamela A. Farrar of Grapevine, AR, Patricia J. Farrar of Florida; three grandchildren, Natalio Reyes, Nicholas Reyes, and Vittorio Reyes; four great-grandchildren, Rachel Reyes, Rebecca Reyes, Vittorio Reyes Jr., Adrianna Reyes, and a step grandson, Zachary McNiff.

He was predeceased by his son, James Farrar of Florida in 2010; his twin brother, James Farrar of Shirley, and his sister, Nancy Roden of California.

FARRAR -- A graveside service with military honors will be held 11:30 AM, Wednesday, May 20th at Center Cemetery, Brown Road, Shirley Center. There are no calling hours. The T.J. Anderson & Son Funeral Home, 25 Fitchburg Road, Ayer is assisting the family with arrangements.
