Ruby Nell Steele

Ruby Nell Steele, 76, of Florence, KY, formerly of Harlan, entered Eternal Rest on Monday, March 2, 2015 following an illness. She was born August 4, 1938 in Muhlenberg County to the late Amos Lee Steele and Ruth Mae Hulsey Steele.

Nell served as a nurse for 38 years at both Wise (Va.) and Harlan Appalachian Regional Hospitals, was a Kentucky Colonel and a former member of the Loyall Fire Department Women’s Auxiliary. She was a Christian and believed in the Baptist faith.

In addition to her parents, Nell is preceded in death by three sisters, Bette Hemple, Shirley Hoffman and Janice Halcomb.

Survivors include a son, Phillip (P.J.) Collett, Jr., Brookside, KY; two daughters, Beverly Stamm and husband Joe, of Independence, KY; and Debbie Ison Saylor and husband Sam, of Wallins Creek, KY; grandchildren, Drew Freeman, of Atlanta, GA; Kendyl Gilliam, Jackson Stamm and Zachary Stamm, all of Independence, KY.

Visitation will be from 12 – 2 pm Wednesday, March 4, at Harlan Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 pm with the Reverend Paul White officiating.

Interment will follow at Resthaven Cemetery, Keith, Kentucky.
