Naomi V. (Smeltzer) Reed, 94, of Ford City, died Monday, March 2, 2015, in Life Care at Allegheny Valley Hospital. Born Jan. 21, 1921, she was born in Ford City to the late Sloan Smeltzer and Luela (Brown) Smeltzer and was a lifelong member of the community. She was a graduate of Ford City High School in 1939, a loving wife and mother, a Postal Service rural route carrier and a payroll clerk at Works No. 4 Pittsburgh Plate Glass. She attended Emmanuel Heilman Lutheran Church in Ford City. Naomi loved to be working in the yard, tending to her flowers. She spent many hours gardening and canning fruits and vegetables. She enjoyed traveling around the country sightseeing with family and friends. She also enjoyed stamp collecting and attending high school football and basketball games and Pirates baseball games. She had been an active member of the Women's group at the church volunteering many hours of service and teaching Sunday School. Survivors include her daughter, Karen (Reed) and husband, Dantoy, of Butler; son, Glenn Reed and wife, Sandy (Cousins), of Ford City; grandchildren, Ashley (Reed) and husband, Shane Cornman, of Kittanning, Alicia (Reed) Palmer, Gavin Reed, of Vandergrift, Christopher Toy, of Butler, and Nicholas Toy, of Butler; great-grandchildren, Lara Palmer, of Ford City, Kira Palmer, of Ford City, and Sloan Cornman, of Kittanning; brother, Laird Smeltzer, of Ford City; sister, Caroline (Smeltzer) Haney, of Ford City, Ruth (Smeltzer) Zeigler, of Kittanning, and Lois (Smeltzer) Reltch, of Ford City; and sister-in-law, Maxine Reed, of Kittanning. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter W. Reed, who died in 2009, to whom she was married to for 53 years. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the KENNEDY and BLODGETT FUNERAL HOME, in Kittanning. Addition visitation will be held 11 a.m. to noon Thursday at Emmanuel Heilman Lutheran Church on Garrett Run Road, where service will be held at noon, with the Pastor Kevin Kackey officiating. Interment will be in Emmanuel Heilmen Lutheran Church Cemetery.
