Shirley Ann Williams Maples departed this life Wednesday, May 17, 2006, at 11 p.m. in St. John's Hospital in Springfield. She was born July 25, 1934, the daughter of Leonard Joseph Williams and Mildred Ivon Parsons Williams. They lived in several communities in southwestern Missouri, including Hurley and Crane.

Shirley graduated from Marionville High School. She married Thomas L. Maples on December 24, 1951. They had four children, Jeanne in 1952, Teresa in 1954, Kirk in 1958, and Carol in 1960. She was predeceased by her parents, her sister, Martha Jane, and her brothers, Larry Leonard and Dan Parsons.

Mrs. Maples was a loving homemaker who dedicated her life to the care and support of her family. She was also committed to the improvement of public education. She joined the Crane Presbyterian Church as a child, and returned to the congregation when she and her husband retired and moved back to Crane, Missouri.

Survivors are her husband, Thomas L. Maples; daughters, Dr. Jeanne Maples Schneider of Geary, Okla., Teresa Ann Schneider of Blue Springs, Mo., and Carol Jane Maples of Renton, Wash.; her son, Dr. Kirk Randall Maples of San Jose, Calif.; 11 grandchildren, Dominica Schneider Hense of Plano, Texas, Cynthia Schneider DePalma of Tulsa, Okla., Kimberly Schneider Halliburton of Plano, Texas, Erik Joseph Stanley Schneider and Andrew Thomas Schneider of Blue Springs, Mo., Jason Kirk Maples, Sean Thomas Maples, Christopher Adam Maples, and Sarah Marie Maples of San Jose, Calif., Thomas Allen Rauschendorfer and Noelle Ann Rauschendorfer of Renton, Wash.; and three great-grandchildren, Brian Anthony Hense, Christopher Patrick DePalma, and Kathleen Marie Halliburton.

Funeral services were under the care of Westrip Funeral Home, 39670 State Highway 413, Crane, Mo. The funeral was held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 20, 2006, at Crane Presbyterian Church, 220 N. Commerce, with the Rev. Mary Kay Glunt officiating.

The family would prefer to have donations made to the Crane Presbyterian Church, 220 N. Commerce, Crane, MO 65633, or to St. John's Hospice, 214 Carter St., Berryville, AR 72616, in lieu of flowers.
