Mr. Mark Steven Holt, age 63, of Madison, Indiana was born on April 12, 1951. He was the son of Harold Rayburn Holt, Hollow Rock, TN and Norma Nadine Wilson of Madison (deceased). Mark attended Shawe Memorial High School and spent most of his life in Madison. Mark was raised Catholic and a member of the Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Madison. On September 3, 1968 at the tender age of 17, Mark enlisted into the United States Marine Corps at a time when most were drafted and rose to the rank of Corporal during the Vietnam War. He served with the Force Logistic Command in Da Nang, Vietnam and was honorably discharged on February 11, 1971. While serving he earned the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal w/1*, Rifle Sharpshooter Badge, Vietnam Campaign Medal w/device, Combat Action Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and Navy Unit Citation. Like many others who fought in the Vietnam War, Mark never fully returned. The decades that followed marked the beginning of a different type of fight that ultimately ended with him homeless unbeknownst to his family and friends. Mark was found on Monday, March 2, 2015, at 7:30 a.m. in downtown Madison, Indiana.

Mark will be missed by his father, Harold Rayburn Holt; his sister, Diane Signore of California; his niece, Lexie Signore; his cousins, Marsha Craig, Sharon Caswell and Lois Tandy of Hanover, Indiana, Carolyn Richey of Scottsburg, Indiana; and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his mother, Norma Nadine Wilson, died February 23, 2010.

Mark will be remembered in a funeral ceremony conducted Monday, March 16, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. by Father Christopher A. Craig at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana. Interment will follow in the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1415 North Gate Road in Madison, Indiana

Friends may call Sunday from 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. and Monday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana.

A final salute will be conducted on Monday, March 16, 2015 following the funeral ceremony at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, conducted by, Jefferson Post 9 of the American Legion and the U.S. Marine Corps Ceremonial Unit. Full military honors will follow at the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel, 1415 North Gate Road in Madison, Indiana.
