Suffers Heart Attack;
Services Tomorrow

Melancthon Dye Anderson, 83 prominent local businessman and founder of Anderson Fish and Oyster Co., died of a heart attack yesterday at his residence, 3611 Sperry road.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. tomorrow at Cosmopolitan funeral home, 2505 West End ave. J. P. Sanders and Dr. James W. Henley will officiate, and burial will be in Mount Olivet cemetery. The body is at the funeral home.
Native of Kentucky
A native of Covington, Ky, he was born April 22 1870. He and his brother entered the fish business in Cincinnati in 1890, selling out to Booth Fisheries in 1899.
Mr. Anderson became manager of the main store of Booth Fisheries in Cincinnati at that time and was transferred to Nashville as general manager of the Booth store here. He continued with the concern until 1912 when he resigned to enter business for himself.
2 Sons Took Over
Anderson Fish and Oyster Co. was first located at 312 Fourth ave., N., and Mr. Anderson continued in business at that site until 1932 when his two sons took over operation of the business. The company is now located at 412 Broadway and is operated by his surviving son, Robert J. Anderson.
After retiring from the fish business, Mr. Anderson became president of the Nashville Savings & Loan Co., of which he was the major stockholder. He continued as president of the company until selling out his interest in 1941.
Headed Loan Group
For 10 years he also served as president of the Nashville Building & Loan Association which was later combined with the First Federal Savings & Loan Co. Mr. Anderson was also vice president of General Securities Co. for several years.
He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce and served as vice president of that organization. He was also chairman of the house committee of the old Richland Golf club, and had served as a member of the war ration board. Survivors, in addition to his son, includehis widow, Mrs. Amelia Matilda Nordhoff Anderson' his daughters, Mrs. Leland Blackwood, Maryville, Tenn., and Miss Florence Anderson, Mrs. David Rodenhauser, Miss Jean Anderson, all of Nashville; four grandsons, T. D. Anderson Jr. of Lawrenceburg, Tenn., and Robert William Anderson, Jack Tyler Anderson and Robert Jackson Anderson all of Nashville.
