Douglas Charles Ashcraft passed away Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2009, in a tragic accident near Waco. He was living in Austin with his fiancee, Shannen Riley. They were to be married in October.

Those who knew and loved Douglas will miss his loving spirit, his larger-than-life laugh and his mischievous and genuine warm smile. He was a devoted son, brother, uncle and friend. Douglas was passionate about his family, his sobriety, his friends, his music and his upcoming marriage. He overcame many obstacles in his life that would have crippled the average person. His strength and perseverance ultimately led him to a life of peace and true love.

His family and friends are deeply saddened by their tragic loss. All who knew him were blessed.

Douglas is survived by his mother, Connie Campbell, and his father, Charles Ashcraft, both of Tyler; his grandmothers, Nellie Caswell of Independence, Mo., and Dorothy Ashcraft of Opelousas, La.; his brother and sister-in-law, Jason and Rachel Ashcraft, and his niece and nephew, Anna and Will Ashcraft, all of Tyler; his aunts and uncles, Carol and Jerry Rippee, Gary and Patty Caswell, Mike and Debbie Caswell, and Dennis Caswell, all of Independence, Mo., and Shannon and Phillip Smith of Lake Charles, La.

He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Douglas Ashcraft and William Caswell; uncle, William K. Caswell Jr.; and aunt, Nancy Caswell.

Pallbearers are Ross Seggern, Kenny Baker, Terry Buetler, Cameron Kuehne, Brian Everett and James Hunter, all of Austin.

The family is requesting memorials be made to the Boys and Girls Club.

The family will receive visitors Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway, Tyler, 75703. Services will be held Sunday, Sept. 27, at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Roy Thoene officiating. .
