Debra Marie “Jaksetic” McCarty, age 54 of Lee’s Summit, MO, passed away with loved ones by her side on the beautiful afternoon of February 25, 2015.

Debbie was a loving wife, devoted mother to four children, and sweet grandmother to three grandsons.
Her unforgettable smile and magnetic personality was one that would leave a lasting impression on everyone whose life she touched. She loved God and she had a zest for life and living it to the fullest.

Debbie was born and raised in Kansas City, Kansas, and graduated from Washington High School in 1978. She was employed by Hallmark Cards from 1981 to 2001, after which she launched her own home-based business, Professional Medical Transcription, LLC, which became Totalscribe, LLC in 2011. She was currently serving as President of BNI KC Referral Masters, Lee’s Summit Chapter. Due to her inspiring and impacting leadership, she was the first-ever President of that organization to be asked to serve a second term. She also volunteered as a coach for Girls on the Run at Franklin Smith Elementary in Blue Springs, MO.
Debbie was a softball player in her youth, with her parents as coaches, and their team went 4 consecutive years undefeated. She also ran track in high school. She took up running in 2009 and ran her first 10K in 2010. She could often be seen jogging on local trails and streets training for her next race. It was nothing for Debbie to take off from her home in Lee’s Summit, and with a smile and a kiss goodbye, ask her husband to pick her up in Olathe in 3hrs. Her ultimate goal was to run in the Boston Marathon. She qualified for Boston on only her second marathon at Disney World in 2013, and achieved her goal at the Boston Marathon in 2014. In addition to running, she was a DLP (dearly loved player) on the Lee’s Summit Shooters, a co-ed adult soccer team for 5 years. Debbie loved the outdoors, the sun, and the beach. Her favorite pastime of late was playing grandma. She loved her grandsons more than anything. It was not uncommon for Will to sleep 12 hours straight after a day at Grandma and Grandpa’s house because she wore him out playing and having fun. She watched her middle grandson, Jaks, 4 days a week.

Debbie was preceded in death by her younger brother Lawrence Jaksetic in 1996.

She is survived by her parents, Bernard and Marilyn Jaksetic, and a brother Mark Jaksetic (Marilyn) of Kansas City, KS, a sister-in-law Rhonda Hastings of Overland Park, her loving husband of 27 years, Brian McCarty, son Nicholas McCarty (Heather Feden-McCarty), daughter Monica Wilkerson (Rhett); daughter Kimberly McCarty; and son Zachary McCarty, 3 adorable grandsons: William McCarty 21mo, Waylon McCarty 7wks, and Jaks Wilkerson 9mo, all of Lee’s Summit Missouri, 3 nieces and 4 nephews.

A celebration of Debbie’s life will take place at 1:00pm on Saturday March 7th, 2015 at the Lee’s Summit United Methodist Church, 114 SE Douglas St, Lee’s Summit, MO. Friends may call from 11:00am to 12:55pm in the sanctuary prior to the service. Runners, soccer players, and workout friends are invited to wear their sports attire. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Vitas Hospice, or Girls on the Run. The family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to the wonderful medical staff at Research Medical Center, for the amazing care and kindness to Debbie and family.
