Carl "C.L." Lewis Wheeler
(February 8, 1930 - February 26, 2015)

Carl Lewis “C.L.” Wheeler joined the presence of the Lord on February 26, 2015. “But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.” Philippians 3:20-21.

“C.L.” was born to the late Fannie Lou and William Claude Wheeler, of Jacksonville, TX on February 8, 1930. He joined the Army in 1951 where he served in the Korean War.

C.L. was blessed with a large, loud and loving family. He married his beautiful wife, Wanda Stribling Wheeler, on July 4, 1951. C.L. helped raise his two daughters with patience, discipline and humility. From the very beginning, he dedicated his children to God and encouraged them to explore the beauty of the gospels. He always felt truly blessed by his brothers and sisters in Christ at Fairdale Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon.

C.L. was an avid outdoorsman and sportsman, with two of his greatest loves being fishing and baseball. He was a man of few words, but if he was in a boat, watching a ball game, or surrounded by his family, stories and laughs would flow from him. He was truly wise in the words of the gospel and always had time to answer any question with wisdom from the Lord. He loved his family dearly and went above and beyond the call of a husband, father and grandfather to provide and protect not only his blood, but also anyone who was blessed to call him a friend. He is dearly missed by his loved ones, who celebrate the fact that he is at peace with his creator and they will be reunited with him one day.

C.L. is survived by his wife, Wanda; his brother, Eddie Wheeler and his wife, Mary, of Jacksonville,TX; his sister, Sue Dover, and her husband, Wilbur, of Grapevine, TX; his sister, Jan Lathrop, and her husband, James, of Jacksonville, TX; his daughters, Paula Baker and her husband, Robert, of Bossier City, LA; his daughter, Luwanna Davis of Shreveport, LA; his grandchildren, Stephen and Sarah Baker, Mary Katherine Baker, Jacob and Whitney Davis, Jordan Davis, Jentry Davis and Ryne Baker and his great-grandchild Annie Beth Baker.

A visitation will be held for Mr. Wheeler at 10 a.m. in the Fairdale Baptist Church, preceded by his funeral at 12 p.m. on February 28, 2015, with a reception to follow at Fairdale Baptist Church. Bro. Bo Owens will officiate the service. Burial will be in the Mt. Sinai Cemetery. Flowers and donations in his name may be sent in memory of Mr. Wheeler to Fairdale Baptist Church.
