Sheila "Ninon" Teager Crawford January 1, 1935 - November 1, 2011 On November 1, 2011, Sheila Ninon Teager Crawford passed away from complications of an earlier stroke. Finally being released from her physical being, Ninon's death marks a new beginning of her eternal life with Jesus Christ and a long-awaited re-uniting in heaven with her first born child, Laurie Lynn. Sheila Ninon Teager was born on New Years Day, 1935 in Marshalltown, Iowa to Henry Teager and Juanita Thomson Teager. Named "Sheila", she preferred to be called by the more difficult to pronounce, "Ninon" (knee-NON) illustrating traits that threaded her blessed life: unique, independent, strong-willed and marching to the beat of her own drum. Go Cal. Bears - After graduating from Santa Monica High School, Ninon attended the University of California at Berkeley where she was a member of Theta Upsilon sorority. It was here that Ninon developed her lifelong love of Cal Bear football and met her future husband, Jon Franklin Crawford. Shortly after graduation in 1956, Jon and Ninon were married. They had three wonderful children, Laurie, Christopher and Matthew, and one troublemaker, Douglas. Busy raising her kids in Bakersfield, Ninon still found time to volunteer at Guild House, serving as house manager and President. She was also active in Petroleum Wives Club, American Association of University Women and her sorority alumni group. Ninon loved to cook, sew, knit and read, but mostly loved her family. Charging on, Ninon later returned to school to obtain her teaching credential which she utilized as a substitute teacher for many years in the Ventura School District. Never quite done, prior to her death, Ninon was planning on enrolling in Berkeley once again to obtain her Masters in Library Science. Ninon was tragically predeceased by her best-friend and only daughter, Laurie Lynn. She is survived by her three loving sons, Christopher Jon, Douglas James and Matthew Edward. A memorial service will be held at Greenlawn Cemetery in Bakersfield on November 5, 2011 at 11:00 am. www.bakersfield.com/obits
