Harriett graduated from Old Central High in 1933. At Kalamazoo College she was an English major and editor of THE INDEX from 1935 to her graduation in 1936. Following in her father's footsteps, she became a reporter for the IONIA SENTINEL before moving to Chicago where she edited for Harcourt, Brace & Co. In the early 1940s Harriett traveled to Hollywood, CA. where she met Ben Lindsey. They married there in 1945, then settled in Whittier.
For many years she contributed articles to THE EAST WHITTIER REVIEW. Harriett is remembered for her sympathetic kindness, her love of children and her dedication to community.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her brother Victor, and her sister Mary.
She is survived by her daughter, three nieces, and a large, loving extended family.
Following Harriett's wishes, cremation has taken place; her ashes will be strewn in Santa Monica Bay, CA at the same location as her husband's.
A Memorial Service will be held March 7 at Green Hills Church, 8707 S. Greenleaf Ave., Whittier, CA. 90602 (562) 943-7291. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lowell Plasterer Scholarship at Kalamazoo College, 1200 Academy Street, Kalamazoo, MI 49006 or the Gertrude Florence Knight Memorial Scholarship, Indiana State University Foundation, 30 North Fifth Street, Terre Haute, IN 47809. Harriett established both scholarships in memory of her parents.
