ELGIN, S.C. – Elmo William Hightower, 72, of Elgin, died Sunday, March 1, 2015 at Palmetto Health Richland Hospital.
Born in Oconee County, South Carolina he was a son of the late Rev. Claude and Sallie Broome Hightower. Mr. Hightower was retired from sales in oil products; however his life’s passion was Gospel singing. He was a founding member of the Counselors Quartet, former choir director, and member of Harmony Baptist Church, where he served as choir member and deacon.
Surviving are his loving wife of 49 years, Carolyn Motley Hightower; daughter, Sherri Hightower of West Columbia; brothers, Haskell Hightower (Jean) of Kershaw, Mitchell Hightower of Kershaw, Rev. Veldee Hightower (Sharon) of Rapid City, S.D; sisters, Elizabeth Wooten (Leo) of Camden, Lois Jacobs (Donnie) of Elgin, Linda Hill (Danny) of Pelzer, and Montez Burton (James) of Abbeville.
He was preceded in death by sisters, Claudia Price, Patsy Tarrant, Joyce Cox, and Louise Hightower.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 4, at 2:00 p.m. at Harmony Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Dan Griffin and the Rev. Jerry Lewis officiating. Burial will be in Union Baptist Church Cemetery, Elgin. The family will receive friends following the burial in the fellowship hall at Union Baptist Church.
