Charles McClelland, 95, of Bath, N.Y., formerly of Carbondale, PA, died Friday, February 27, 2015 at the Fred and Harriet Taylor Health Center in Bath. His wife is the former Eleanor Kent.


Born in Glencraig, Fife, Scotland, he came to the United States at the age of 9 with his parents and three siblings, and lived in Carbondale until he and his wife relocated to Bath in 2006. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Bath, and its sanctuary choir. While living in Carbondale, he was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the church choir and had served as an elder. He had been a member of the Carbondale Presbyterian Church choir for more than 70 years. He was the eldest child of the late David Watt McClelland and Catherine (Fraser) McClelland of Carbondale.


Trained as a tool and die maker, he was employed by Hendrick Manufacturing Co. and Cross Engineering Co., both of Carbondale, and for many years by what is now Lockheed Martin Corp., formerly Daystrom Inc., and Weston Instruments of Archbald. He was a member of the Free & Accepted Masons of Pennsylvania, Carbondale Blue Lodge, at the time of his death, and for more than 60 years, he had been a member of Elkview Country Club, Crystal Lake.


He served in the Navy during World War II aboard the destroyer, USS Doyle, in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters. He was serving on the Doyle during the invasion of Normandy.


Charles is also survived by a daughter, Jean, wife of Trafford L-M Doherty, Hammondsport, N.Y.; a son, Philip M. McClelland and wife, Karen Banos, Philadelphia; five grandchildren, Elizabeth Bjarning, Hammondsport, wife of Simon Bjarning; Christopher Doherty, Hammondsport; Brian Doherty and wife, Jolanta, Pittsburgh; Evan and Charles McClelland, Philadelphia; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Ian McClelland, in 2012; four sisters, Catherine Hempstead, Anne Allmon, Mary Hrisho and Marion McClelland; and two brothers, David and Robert McClelland.


The funeral will be Saturday, March 7, at 11 a.m. in the Brennan & Brennan Funeral Home Inc., 55 Lincoln Ave., Carbondale, with services by the Rev. William Blackie. Interment will be in Willow View Cemetery, Clifford.
