THOMAS S. DONNEL
Thomas S. Donnel was born in Seneca county, Iowa, April 2, 1839, and died at his home in Colville, Wash., Feb. 18, 1915, at the age of 75 years 10 months and 16 days. In 1848 he moved with his parents to Marion county, Iowa. In 1860 he crossed the plains to Pike's Peak, Col. When the Civil war broke out he enlisted in Company K, third Iowa Calvary, and served nearly four years, nine months of which was spent in Andersonville prison. In 1867 he was married to Margaret J. Berry. To this union for daughter were born, all of whom are living save Laura, the eldest, who died in 1888 at the age of 20. The surviving daughters are: Mrs. Dorsha Robinson of Grassy Lake, Alberta; Mrs. Dora McKern of Colville; Mrs. Mamie McKern of Rice.
In 1884 he moved from Iowa to North Dakota, and from thence to Colville in 1903, where he made his home until the time of his death. The deceased leaves, besides two sisters living in Iowa, a wife, three daughters, eleven great grandchildren to mourn his departure. Mr. Donnel was a member of the Gen. J.M. Corse post, No. 98, G.A.R. For many years he was a faithful, consistent member of the M.E. church, and he died in the triumphs of that faith.
Funeral services were conducted at the M.E. church Sunday afternoon at 2:30 by the pastor, M.L. Sanders, and the remains were laid to rest in Highland cemetery. The acting pallbearers were furnished by the Sons of Veterans, with honorary pallbearers from the G.A.R. The services at the grave was in charge of the Sons of Veterans.
Those present from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. McKern of Rice, Mrs. Dorsha Robinson of Alberta, and Mrs. M.E. Sickels of Velva, North Dakota.
