Mary Barrett Robertson, 87, died at home on February 28, 2015.
Burial will be at Magnolia Cemetery.
Mary was born August 13, 1927, the first of three children of Cecilia Baker Barrett (Teto) and George Barnes Barrett.
She is survived by her children, Thomas Heard Robertson, Jr. and his wife, Lee of Augusta; Cecilia Baker Robertson Queen and her husband, Mike of Columbia, South Carolina; and Catherine Barrett Robertson of Augusta; her sister, Katherine Barrett Murphy of Wayzata, Minnesota; and her sister-in-law, Lelia DuPre Barrett of Augusta; grandchildren, Mary Barrett Smith-West and her husband, Randy of Fairhope, Alabama; Thomas Heard Robertson, III and his wife Martha of Augusta; Jonathan Sommers Robertson and his wife, Laura of Augusta; Sarah Daniel Smith of Valdosta, Georgia; and George Gostin Robertson of Augusta; six great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Thomas Heard Robertson, and her brother, William Hale Barrett.
Mary graduated from William Robinson School, Tubman High School, and Sweet Briar College in Virginia. She was active in many civic affairs and organizations, including the Junior League of Augusta; the National Society of the Colonial Dames in the State of Georgia, Augusta Town Committee; the Sand Hills Garden Club (affiliated with the Garden Club of America); the Gateway Garden Club; and the Board of the Widows' Home. She also worked tirelessly for the Augusta Museum when it was located on Telfair Street. She was a lifelong member of Saint Paul's Church, where she served on the Altar Guild.
For many years after her children were older, she taught school in the Richmond County school system and then worked at the Internal Revenue Service as a taxpayer assistant.
She was a Master Gardener, and her flowers and plants gave much pleasure to herself and to others. She and Heard spent many happy hours working in the garden together throughout the years.
