Beverly Bell Ryan
Beverly Bell Ryan

On February 21, 2015, at 81, Beverly Bell Ryan's courageous journey with ALS ended in accordance with her own inspirational plan to pass with grace and dignity. As a strong woman of faith she knew she would not be walking this path alone. She will be missed by many family and friends who have known her smile, laugh, and special brand of engaging love that left you with no doubt how important you were to her and how your life matters.

Born in Wilmington, DE on October 30, 1933, she enjoyed a lifelong residence in Delaware graduating from Alexis I. DuPont HS in 1952 and married Kenneth W. Ryan that same year. She enjoyed a very active life of family and friends where you would find her passionately arranging flowers and gardening, ballroom and square dancing, enjoying musicals and plays, and annually creating her unique Christmas "Tree" and decorative displays for all to enjoy. Blessed with many nieces, nephews, and "adopted" children she was particularly fond of her role as "Aunt Bev".

Always a hard working, energetic, and dedicated wife and mother, she managed her way through multiple careers beginning with the Diamond State Telephone Co(Senior Clerk), and later as para-professional in a variety of roles(Nurses Aid) supporting the students of the Mt. Pleasant School District. Her last "job" gave her the opportunity to share her creative talents with bows and wreaths at Rosehill Plantery.

In her Christian life she was married in Aldersgate UMC and a dedicated member to the wonderful congregations of Chester Bethel UMC, Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, and most recently Silverside Church. She cherished her bible study friends past and present and with her beautiful singing voice enjoyed praising the Lord through song.

Beverly was predeceased by her parents Samuel Melvin Bell and Helen Emma Armstrong, husband Kenneth W. Ryan, and brother, Samuel Roger Bell. She is survived by her only son William Blake Ryan and daughter-in law Helen Baker Ryan, siblings Phyllis Dawn Groom(George) and Edna Ruth Barczykowski(Steve), Joseph Russell Bell(Louise), and sisters-in-law Judy Bell, Jane Haggard, Lovette Ryan.

Our family deeply appreciated the many family and friends who lovingly supported her along her journey. Additionally, we offer our appreciation to the following organizations and staff for providing quality healthcare and emotional support to Beverly and our family. CCHS - Drs. Newswanger, Edelsohn, and Koch, MDA.org(ALS), ALSA.org-Greater Philadelphia Chapter, Bayada, Fox Rehab, NuMotion, and Sunrise Senior Living of Wilmington.

A Celebration of Beverly's Life will be held on Saturday, March 14, at 11 am, at Silverside Church, 2800 Silverside Rd, Wilmington, DE, where friends may call on the family after 9:30 am. Interment will be held privately at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Beverly's name to the Ronald McDonald House of Delaware, 1901 Rockland Rd., Wilmington, DE 19803.
