Joseph Fletcher McGalliard was the son of David McGalliard and Catherine England. He was married twice. First to Mary Jane Marrs and second to Mary Elizabeth Boren. At the outbreak of the civil war Joseph enlisted in Co B 35 Reg N. C. Volunteer C.S.A. In 1898 Joseph and wife Mary Jane 'Marrs' McGalliard donated 2 1/2 acres to the 'White River Chapel Cemetery' for the sum of one dollar in hand paid. The McGalliard's lived just across the river at this time and this was already their family cemetery. The name of the cemetery was later changed to Riverside.
