Walter Lee (Speedy) Jefferson
GALVESTON — Walter Lee (Speedy) Jefferson passed into the arms of our Lord and Savior on August 27, 2008. He was born February 11, 1940, in Georgetown, Texas to X. L. Jefferson and Helen Francis Mauldin Jefferson Cade. He was the eldest of three children born to this union. Affectionately called “Spitty” by his family, he was held in high esteem and deeply loved.
Walter attended Wiley College and was an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Navy. He was a friendly, outgoing person who loved people and was loved in return by many! He loved his church family, served as a Deacon in Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, Houston, Texas, was the assistant superintendent of the Sunday school and worked diligently with the children until his health failed. He retired as a long distance truck driver.
Left with loving and cherished memories are his children Walter Jefferson and P. J. Jefferson both of Texas City, Texas; Jo Ann Cade of Hitchcock, Texas, and Walter Lawrence Jefferson and Elizabeth Jefferson of San Diego, California; sisters Helen Douglas, Stella Hall, Diana Hill, and Charlotte Zamora; brothers Wilbert Jefferson, X. L. Jefferson Jr., Don Jefferson and Lyndon Bayne Jefferson; brothers-in-law Oscar Douglas, James Hall and Michael Zamora; sister-in-law Ursula Jefferson; numerous grandchildren; cousins; aunts; nieces, nephews; great-nieces; great-nephews and friends all over the world.
Also mourning the loss of our dearly departed loved one are his boys, Laurence Hardeman, Harold Jones, Emmett Kennedy, Lane Mitchell and Marion Oliver with whom he spent many hours playing dominoes, “kicking it”, philisophying and shooting the breeze.
The Memorial Service will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, August 30, 2008, at Wynn Funeral Home. Pastor W. Colbert of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, Houston, Texas will officiate.
