Former Shelby County resident Glen F. Bowden, 72, Ludington, Mich., died Saturday in Ludington.

Born on Aug. 15, 1925, in Ludington, he was the son of Frank L. and Lorraine B. (Freeland) Bowden. On Jan. 31, 1953, he married Thelma F. (Meloy) Bowden, and she survives.

Mr. Bowden had worked for his family's construction business in Ludington and later had owned and operated his own construction company. He had owned and operated the Stearns Motor Inn, Ludington, since 1965 and the Ludington car ferries from 1983 to 1991.

He had spent his years since retirement renovating his wife's family farm in Shelby County.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army.

He was a member of the Community Church of Ludington.

Survivors include his wife, Ludington; two sons, Jeff Bowden and Randy Bowden, both of Ludington; a brother, Ned Bowden, Midland, Mich.; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Carmony-Ewing Harrison Street Funeral Home with the Rev. Patrick W. Larracey officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. There will be a graveside military service.

Friends may call from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
