Katheryn Bledsoe Freese, 96, passed away on February 27, 2015. At her request, a memorial service will be conducted by Reverend Edward Sumrall at the gravesite at 1 p.m., March 3, in Peoria Cemetery. She also requested that Mr. Dana Bennett play the "Tennessee Waltz," and Mr. Bill Wall play "Please Release Me" during the service. These were two of her favorite country/western songs, and two of her favorite entertainers.

Katheryn was born in Peoria, Texas, to the late Blanche Beatrice Bledsoe and Charlie Richard Bledsoe. She lived in Hill County for most of her life.

Kay was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bynum, the 42 Club at the D.L. and Clara Williams Center, the Senior Citizens Club, the Lone Star Single Sams Club, the Longhorn Singles Club, and the Senior Circle Club at Hillsboro Hospital. She was a patroness to the Dana Bennett and Peoria Opry Band. Kay was named Optimist of the Year in 1995, and she was a two-term President of the Hillsboro Business Women’s Club.

Kay was a Bynum City Judge in 1982. She was a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Past Matron of Thula Rice Chapter #405 in New Hope, Alabama, Grand Martha for the State of Alabama in 1967. Kay also participated on Governor George Wallace’s staff while living in Alabama.

She loved driving her RV to week-end campouts, gardening, home cooking, and helping with various civic and charitable services before her recent hip and knee surgeries.

She was preceded in death by son, Charles William Parrish in 2011; brother, sister; and eight half-brothers and half-sisters.

Survivors include her daughters, Martha Freese Owen and husband, David, and Carolyn Parrish Dixon; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren; and many other extended family, friends, and relatives. Z17
