Phineas Hough prounced "Huff" son of "Deacon" James Hough and Deborah Marriam Rice of Wallingford and Meridan, New Haven Connecticut. His father a Deacon in Congregational Church and farmer. He married Desire Cook

Phineas and Desire Hough joined Jan. 1852 First Presbyterian Church of Omro, WI., from Congregation Church of Meridan, New Haven Co., Connecticut.

Also Session Minute Records gives her death date as 17 May 1854 and his death as 1874 age 94 years old different from his tombstone.

Also, son Leander Hough and wife Maria (Peabody) Hough joined Jan 1852

HOUGH, Erastus R. - Pvt. Co. A, 48th Regt., Wis. Vol. Inf.

Erastus was born circa 1825 at Connecticut. He was son of Phineas Hough, who was born in that same state circa 1779. Phineas had at least three sons: Leander, born circa 1808; Herman, born circa 1812, father of Charles N. from a previous sketch; and Erastus, born circa 1825. Phineas was listed in the 1860 federal census as residing on a farm in the town of Winneconne. Listed with him were the three sons mentioned, along with their families. Emeline, wife of Erastus, was born circa 1831 at Connecticut. They had at least one son, William, who was born circa 1850, and one daughter, Alice, who was born circa 1858. Erastus resided at Winneconne and enlisted there on Feb. 6, 1865. He was assigned as above and mustered out on Dec. 30, 1865. Emeline, his widow, was listed in the 1890 US Soldiers and Sailors Federal Census as residing in the village of Omro. She was listed in 1905 as residing on Main Street in Omro. Etta and William Hough were then residing with Emeline.
