MOTHER: Emma Goepfert
Violet Leona nee: Peterson Hall, age 91, longtime resident of Cloquet MN, went home to her heavenly Father Friday, February 27, 2015.
She was born on December 11, 1923, on a farm outside of Cokato MN, the second of four daughters. She worked on the family farm and attended the local country school through the eighth grade.
At the age of 15 she left the farm to work in Minneapolis MN, performing housekeeping duties for two different families. Eventually, she secured a job with Butler Brothers, a catalog sales firm, where she worked until she was married to Melvin Hall in August 1945. After living in California for a short time, they returned to Minnesota in 1949 living near Walker, Minneapolis, and Barnum. In 1951 they moved to their home in Cloquet where they resided for 63 years. She was very adamant regarding the importance of education for her sons and always placed her family ahead of any aspirations she may have had for herself. For several years she performed housekeeping duties for a disabled elderly couple who lived across the road.
Through the years she worked alongside Mel to transform their 20-acre farmstead into a stand of mature Norway pine and white spruce, creating habitat for many species of birds and animals which she enjoyed observing. She also enjoyed traveling within Minnesota and throughout the U.S. and western Canada. She was an avid reader and was always up to date with current events locally, regionally and nationally. Even after her stroke in 2012, she could still recite many poems memorized in elementary school.
For the past five months, she lived at Oakview Residential Care in Moose Lake MN, after her husband's death in September 2014.
She is survived by her sons, David (Nancy) of Lincoln CA, and Bruce (Maggie) of Austin Texas; grandchildren, Shane, Bobbi, Nicole, Victor, Kristina and Zachary; and great-grandchildren, Kylie, Jake, Taylor, Kate, Ryann, Rubie, Myleigha, Malachi, Kairi and Benjamin.
Her husband, Melvin, of 69 years, her parents, and her three sisters preceded her in death.
Special thanks to the administration and staff at Oakview Residential Care, Gateway Family Health Clinic and Mercy Hospital of Moose Lake who cared for Violet over the past five months.
Interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery
