Rudella Mae “Della” Venechuk, age 89 formerly of Portage died on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at the Lodi Good Samaritan Care Center in Lodi. She was born on December 11, 1923 in Alexandria, MN to Henry and Helen (Riemann) Kramer.

Rudella was united in marriage to Nicholas Venechuk on September 2, 1944 in Austin, MN; he preceded her in death on June 28, 1998. She resided in Mason City, Iowa, moved to Waseca, MN in 1952, then Sturgis, MI in 1966 before settling in Portage in 1973. Della was a homemaker, had worked for Columbia County Nurses Office and was a member and volunteer at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, School and choir. She enjoyed bridge, singing, dancing, avid reader, family get togethers, traveling, shopping and especially loved her grandchildren.

Survivors include 10 children, Georgia (Harry) Redman of Faribault, MN, Nick (Mary) Venechuk of Rockford, MI, Judy (Ed) Chobot of Sturgis, MI, Jan (Craig) Chapman of Pardeeville, Tim (Cheryl) Venechuk of Healy, Alaska, Mike (Sally) Venechuk of Wilmette, IL, Bill (Jerry) Venechuk of Montello, Sara Grossman of Portage, Matt (Tammy) Venechuk of Surprise, AZ and Melissa (Dan) Mussehl of Verona; 27 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, 1 sister Sylvia Twiss of Lincoln, CA, 1 brother Roland (Joyce) Kramer of Texas and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son Peter, an infant grandson Jared, son in law Michael, sister Lou Ann and a brother Gene.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 14, 2013 at 10:30 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Portage with Father Mike Richel officiating. Burial will follow at the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Portage. Friends may call at the Picha Funeral Home, Portage on Sunday from 4 – 6 PM and at the church on Monday from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Della’s name to the Lodi Good Samaritan Care Center.
