Professional Basketball Player. For thirteen seasons (1989 to 1998 and 1999 to 2003), he played at the small-forward, power-forward and center positions in the National Basketball Association with the New Jersey Nets, Detroit Pistons, New York Knicks, Charlotte Hornets, Miami Heat and Milwaukee Bucks. Born Anthony George Douglas Mason, he was raised in New York, where he attended Springfield Gardens High School. He played collegiate basketball at Tennessee State University, prior to being selected by the Portland Trail Blazers during the 3rd round of the 1988 NBA Draft. He totaled 882 regular season NBA games and compiled 9,656 career points. While with the Knicks, Mason provided additional offense, while coming off from the bench and was a contributor to New York's reaching of the NBA Finals in 1994. The following season, he earned NBA Sixth Man of the Year honors. During the 2000-2001 season, he achieved all-star status with the Heat and produced a career-high 1,290 points. Mason suffered a massive heart attack in February of 2015 and died from complications.
