Archie was a minister with the Christian and Missionary Alliance, sent on mission to the Ban Me Thuot Leprosarium, in the Central Highlands of Vietnam.

On May 30, 1962 the hospital camp was overtaken by Vietcong who stripped it of medicine and supplies before heading out, taking Dr Vietti and two other missionaries (Rev. Archie Mitchell and Dan Gerber) along with them.

There has been no further information on their whereabouts.

His first wife, Elsie, was one of six civilian casualties during World War II on American soil.

He married Betty Patzke and was the father of Loretta, Becky, Geraldine and Glenn.
