The family of Steve Hayes is saddened to announce his passing on February 26, 2015, at the age of 67, after a 5 month battle with bile duct cancer.

Steve was born November 28, 1947, in Hutchinson, KS, to Troy and Ellen Hayes. He graduated from Wichita State, where he met and then married, the love of his life, Marilyn Manor, in 1970. They moved to Overland Park, where Steve embarked on a career as an exceptionally talented graphic designer, working for various agencies and doing freelance work full time for 23 years. Their daughter, Ashley Hayes, of Overland Park, was born in 1975. Steve was Senior Art Director at UltraSource LLC, since February of 2000, until his illness. One of Steve's first design jobs was a Kansas City landmark: the water tower for Worlds of Fun. Steve was the former President of the Kansas City Art Directors Club, Former President of the Advisory Board for The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, Kansas City branch and the current Vice President of the Sons of Norway Maihaugen Lodge. He was the recipient of numerous awards and had photographs accepted for hanging in juried exhibitions. Steve's kind nature, witty sense of humor and magnetic smile will be missed by all that knew him.

He was preceded in death by his father, Troy and his brother, Pat. Steve is survived by wife, Marilyn, daughter, Ashley, mother, Ellen, sister, DeAnn (Mike), both of Columbus, KS, brother-in-law, Steve Manor and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at Johnson County Funeral Chapel (College & Metcalf) on Saturday, February 28, 2015, from 5-7pm. Service will be held 2 days later at 10:30 am on Monday, March 2, 2015, at Advent Lutheran Church, 11800 W 151 Street, Olathe, KS 66062. Entombment to follow at Johnson County Memorial Gardens, indoors in the Courtyard of Memories. A lunch will be held at the church, afterward.
