Douglas "Doug" Barnes, Jr., age 84, of Asheboro died Thursday, February 26, 2015 at his home.

Mr. Barnes was born in Robeson County on May 20, 1930 to D. Douglas Barnes, Sr. and Maude McLellan Barnes. Doug served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was a lifetime member of the 187th Airborne Rakakassans RCT (Regimental Combat Team) and the 11th Airborne Division. He was retired from the NC Department of Insurance. Doug was a member of Oakhurst Baptist Church, Asheboro Masonic Lodge #699, the Randolph Shrine Club, and the Golden K Club. In addition to his parents, Doug was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Helen M. Barnes.

He is survived by his daughters, Patricia Essick and husband Jimmy of Asheboro, Brenda Pittman and husband Carlton of Raleigh, Lynne Krondon and husband Scott of Holden Beach; grandchildren, David Essick and Lauren Essick both of Asheboro, Sarah Pittman and Rebecca Pittman both of Raleigh; sisters, Phyllis Benton of Lumberton and Barbara Davis of Ellerbe.

The family will receive friends on Monday, March 2, 2015 from 11:30 am-12:30 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro. Funeral services will follow on Monday at 1:00 pm at the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Donnie Davis officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
