Mrs. Fannie Chaney, 79, Dies After Long Illness

DEATH came to Mrs. Fannie Emma Chaney, 79, prominent resident of this community for the last 45 years, at an early hour this morning. Mrs. Chaney, whose home was at 328 Cayuga street, had been ill for more than a year and had been in a local hospital for the last six months.

The wife of the late Joseph M. Chaney, she was a native of Nevada City, Calif. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. David Ott, were cousins of General Sutter and closely identified with early California history.

She was a charter member of the Salinas Woman's club, and the local order of Rebehahs and belonged to St. Paul's Episcopal church and St. Paul's Guild.

Surviving her are two daughters, Mrs. Oliver P. Bardin of Salinas and Mrs. Gladys McConnell of Berkeley; one son, Dr. L E Chaney of Salinas and the following gtandchildren:

Lt. William Bardin, USNR, In the South Pacific; Oliver C. Bardin of Salinas; Ensign David Bardin, USNR, of Boston, Mass , Albert Bardin of San Francisco; Miss Mary Ann Bardin of Stanford university; Leonard Chaney of Berkeley; Ensign Albion Chaney, USNR, Norfolk, Va.; and Douglas McConnell, Jr., and Miss Marjorie McConnell, both of New York.

Funeral Monday

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 30 o'clock Monday morning from the Struve and Laporte funeral home, followed by interment in the family plot in the I.O.O.F. cemetery.
