Dona Mae Baumann, 79, of Paris,passed away at 9:20 p.m. EST Wednesday (Nov. 5, 2008) at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, Ind. She was a homemaker.
At Mrs. Baumann’s request, all services will be private. Burial will be in Edgar Cemetery. Templeton Funeral Home of Paris is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Baumann was born December 28, 1928 in Minot, North Dakota, the daughter of the late Garfield and Erna (Krueger) Rode. She married Dr. James E. Baumann on September 30, 1950 at the Presbyterian Church in Paris and he survives.
Other survivors include a son, Dr. Rob (Barbara) Baumann of Oklahoma City, Okla.; two daughters, Barbie (Jim) Palmer of Colorado Springs, Colo. and Jani (Robert) Howrey of Paris; a brother, Bob Rode of Minneapolis, Minn.; and five grandchildren, Alicia Howrey, Anna Palmer, Molly Palmer, Brett Palmer, and Bryce Baumann. She was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Jean Rode.
Mrs. Baumann was a 1947 graduate of Paris High School where she was a cheerleader during the 1947 State Basketball Championship season. She attended the University of Illinois where she majored in art and education and was a member of Chi Omega sorority. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Paris since 1950, serving on the Board of Parish Visitors and as a Sunday School teacher. She also served as a Girl Scout leader and a Bloodmobile volunteer for many years.
Her other memberships included PEO, Garden Club, Sycamore Hills Ladies’ Golf Association, Bicentennial Art Center, Edgar County Historical Society, and Paris YMCA. She enjoyed oil painting and gardening and was an accomplished snow skier and golfer. She especially loved traveling, and made frequent trips throughout the years to Steamboat Springs, Colorado, Destin, Florida, and abroad.
For those who wish, the family suggests that memorials be made to the Presbyterian Church of Paris or to Paris YMCA Fitness Center.
