Ricky Wayne Powell, 55, of Valdese, passed away on Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at his residence.

Ricky was born on August 28, 1959 in Burke County to Wayne Powell and Clara Smith Powell. He was a member of Drexel Memorial Baptist Church was employed as a machinist working locally for Emory, Toolcraft and Carolina Precision. Ricky enjoyed racing and was a champion go cart and dirt track driver.

He was preceded in death by a brother in-law, Ralph Merrell.

Surviving in addition to his parents, are his three sons, Erick Powell and wife Hollie of Granite Falls, Adam Powell of Valdese, and Gabriel Powell of Morganton. Also surviving is his sister, Pamela Merrell of Valdese, a great nephew, Tyler Merrell and his best friend, Kelly Poteat.

Funeral services will be held on at the Morganton First Church of God with Rev. Jon McDivitt and Rev. Don Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Burke Memorial Park.
