Marie F. Barbara, 94, of the Point/Shoreland Community, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 26, 2015 while surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on January 3, 1921 in Toledo, OH to Anna (Kuebler) and Frank Whalen. She was employed by the former Detroit and Toledo Shore Line Railroad as a chief clerk. Marie's memberships included; Messiah Lutheran Church, Lotus Chapter OES, Past Matron of Harbor Light Chapter OES, Past President of District 6 OES, Dendarah Chorus, Dendarah Court #10, LOSNA, and Messiah's Quilters. At every church function it was well known to everyone that Marie's famous 'Gramma Cake' was to be one of the most delicious deserts to be had. Matriarch of a most wonderful family, her survivors include her sons, Joseph (Helenne) and Jonathan (Diane) Barbara; sister, Norma Brown; grandchildren, Jeffery (Jenny) Grabmeier, Joseph (Marge) Grabmeier, Lorene (Phillip) Eley, Linda (Frank) Agin, Lisa (Bobby) Kunkle, Joseph Barbara III, Jacqulenne (Floyd) Bass, Adrienne (Tony) Longoria, and
Gabrielle Barbara. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 50 years, Joseph, Sr.; daughter, Marilyn Grabmeier; brother, Frank Whalen; and sister, Ruth Whalen. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 2, 2015 from 2-8 pm at David R. Jasin-Hoening Funeral Home, 5300 N. Summit St., Toledo, OH 43611 where an Order of Eastern Star Service will begin at 7 pm that same evening. Funeral Services will begin on Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at 10 am in the funeral home with Pastor Cindy Getzinger officiating.
Interment will be in Historic Woodlawn Cemetery. Those wishing to make a contribution are asked to donate
