Gail W. Welch Sr., 87, of 4141 Oxford St. died Thursday at Woodbury West Health Care Center of a probable lung obstruction. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Hamilton's Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Waukee Cemetery.
Mr. Welch was born in Knoxville and lived in Des Moines most of his life. He retired after eight years as a janitor for Iowa Methodist Medical Center. Prior to that he was a coal miner.
Surviving are his wife, Alberta; a daughter, Dolores Gertsen, and a son, Gail "Gus" Jr., both of Des Moines; two sisters, Frances Laws of Waterloo and Maxine Eikenberry of Denver, Colo.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Friends may call after 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
