Obituary for Helen Stanton
Helen Jane Stanton, 83 of Bemidji, MN died Sunday, February 22, 2015 at the Sanford Fargo Medical Center. Her husband Robert James “Jim”, and her eldest Son Robert “Bob,” were at her bed side at the time of death.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm, Saturday, February 28, 2015 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Bemidji, Minnesota. Visitation will be from 4-7:00 pm, Friday, February 27, 2015 at the Cease Family Funeral Home of Bemidji, and from 11:45 am until 12:45 pm on Saturday before the service at the church. Interment will be at the Greenwood Cemetery.
Helen was born June 25, 1931 in Bemidji, MN, the daughter of Herbert LeRoy Shepherd and Hazel Mae (Vogt) Shepherd. She had two brothers, Herbert John Shepherd and Dale LeRoy Shepherd and one sister Carol Mae (Shepherd) Brewer. She grew up in the Nymore area of Bemidji and attended Lincoln Elementary School. She graduated from Bemidji High School in June of 1949. She attended Bemidji State Teacher’s College for one year. In 1952, Helen accompanied by two friends, Patty Bull and Bonnie Bailey, left Bemidji and traveled by train to Seattle, WA, where she stayed for several months. Patty Bull remained in Seattle while Helen and Bonnie traveled on to Los Angeles, CA. She was employed by Douglas Aircraft in 1952, and in 1953 she met Robert James Stanton at Douglas Aircraft. They were married on November 20, 1954 in Hawthorne, CA at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They have two children. In 1990 Helen’s husband Robert James retired from Chevron USA, where he had been employed for 34 plus years at the Chevron Refinery in El Segundo, CA. They retired to Bemidji in 1993.
Her legacy of love lives on in our hearts.
