3rd Baronet. A descendant of an old Northumberland family and Robert de Fenwic, he was the eldest son and second child of Sir William Fenwick of Wallington Castle, and Grace, daughter of the Hon. Mr. Stapleton of Wighill, Yorkshire. He reached the rank of Major General in the Army, served as a Member of Parliament, and was a supporter of James II. He was a Jacobite, and arrested for fomenting disturbances against William of Orange. He served two years in London Tower before his release. A year later, he was accused of rudeness to Queen Mary and inciting a Jacobite riot on Drury Lane. There was also evidence of his involvement in a plot to assassinate King William and he was arrested during an attempt to flee the country. He was beheaded on Tower Hill for high treason. His remains were placed in an elaborate coffin, and his friends buried him under the pavement of the church, near the altar.
