Born Aug. 10, 1898, Mt. Pleasant, to William and Matilda Ruesch Hafen.

Married Ruby Larsen March 2, 1921, Salt Lake LDS Temple. Custodian. Former city councilman.

John Hafen dies on August 5 of heart attack

Services were held Tuesday, August 5 in the Mt. Pleasant First LDS Ward Chapel for Jay Willis Hafen, 76, who died Friday, August 1, 1975 at his home of a heart attack.

Mr. Hafen was born on August 10, 1898 in Mt. Pleasant a son of William and Matilda Ruesch Hafen. He married Ruby Larsen on March 2, 1921 in the Salt Lake Temple. Active in the LDS Church, he had served a mission to the Northern States and was a high priest. He was chapel custodian in the First Ward. He was a farmer and also worked at one time in the Gilsonite Mine.

Prominent in civic affairs, Mr. Hafen served ten years on the Mt. Pleasant City Council.

Survivors include his widow, a daughter and two sons; Mrs. Stanley J. (Mary) Brady of Provo; William J. of Orem and David L. of Walla Walla, Washington; 13 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Lester (Elda) Acord of Springs City; Mrs. Glenna Phillips of Mt. Pleasant; Mrs. Wilma Sorensen of Salina and brothers, Mack Hafen of Nampa, Idaho; Ralph of Cedar City and Rex of Mt. Pleasant City Cemetery directed by the Ursenbach Funeral Home.
