John W. Shoup, 93, died at his daughter's home in Cedar Falls on Tuesday, February 24, 2015.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, February 26 at Iles Westover Chapel. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday, February 27 at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery followed by a 12:30 p.m. memorial mass at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Des Moines of which he was a longtime member.

John was born in Des Moines on July 3, 1921 to the late Newell and Lena (McInosh) Shoup. He worked for 37 years at Des Moines Cold Storage retiring in 1986.

He served with the U.S. Army's 101st Airborne during World War II and received a Purple Heart decoration after being wounded in France as part of the D-Day invasion. He was a member of the Beaverdale VFW and Elks Club.

He coached and served as president of the Windsor Des Moines Little League. He enjoyed, fishing, golf and spending time with his family.

Those left to cherish John's memory include his three children, Mary (Edwin) Dickens of Cedar Falls, Michael Shoup of Omaha, NE and Gerald Shoup of Des Moines; three grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Peg; son, John; and two siblings, Eunice Wright and Claude Shoup.
