Born Adele Buck in Boston Massachusetts, she was discovered by Bronco Billy when he saw her photo in a society column. She adopted the stage name of Vedah Bertram as to not embarrass her family.
Her film debut was in 1912's The Ranch Girl's Mistake, one of 21 film serials she would make that year with Bronco Billy.
Suffering from appendicitis, she only revealed her real name to doctors on the condition that her father and brother could be alerted should she die. She later died after surgery was performed.
Her death was first of any actor or actresses death that garnered widespread attention from the media and the public.
