WITTE - Mr. Gerald F. Witte, aged 76, of Pierson, MI passed away very unexpectedly on Thursday afternoon, September 21, 2000 at Kelsey Memorial Health Center in Lakeview, MI.

Beloved husband, father and grandfather, he is survived by his wife of 23 years, Gay (Vidro) Witte; his children, Marti and Theodore Damstra of Grand Rapids, Mary Beth and Brian Bracken of Phoenix, AZ, Gerald Jr. and Debra White of Grand Rapids, Fred and Genny Witte of Ada, MI, Marilyn and Mike Preston of Grand Rapids, Paul and Suzette Witte of Bryan, OH; his stepchildren, Deborah and Wayne Thomas of Coral, MI, Patrick and Carole Rettig of Cedar Springs, MI, Jan and Rick Kiss of Charlotte, MI, Julie and Bill Stanton of Freeport, MI, Shari and Mark Andrus of Cedar Springs, MI; 26 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; his eight brothers and sisters, Pat Prose, Claire (Robert) Schaffer all of Grand Rapids, Bernard (Helene) Witte of Newagygo, MI, Rosemary (Scottie) McPhail of Grand Rapids, Ginny (Jack) Kirkwood of Tucson, AZ, Thomas (Ellen) Witte, Kay (Vincent) Yost all of Comstock Park, MI, Joan (Ed) Host of Cadillac, MI; many nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends.

Gerald was preceded in death by his wife, Janice (Brogan) Witte.

He retired from General Motors-Diesel Equipment where he worked for 28 years.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10:00 a.m. Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 2230 Lake Michigan Dr. NW in Grand Rapids with burial in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet his family at the Alt and Shawmut Hills Chapel on Saturday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Contributions in his memory to the Ronald McDonald House or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
