Army Sgt. Teeters was assigned to the 8th Squadron, 10th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, Fort Hood, Texas. Teeters suffered burns over 85 percent of his body on April 20 when an improvised explosive device detonated near his Bradley Fighting Vehicle during combat operations in Baghdad, Iraq. He arrived at Landstuhl, Germany, Regional Medical Center on April 21, but was sent to another German facility in Ludwigshafen, the Unfallklinik Clinic, due to the extent and nature of his burns. Brandon briefly attended Centerville High School before attending a Christian school in Bayou Vista. He subsequently acquired his GED. He was remembered in high school as an excellent student who was never in any trouble. Even as a young teen, Brandon already knew he wanted to join the military. He joined the Army on June 3, 2004 and was trained as a Cavalry Scout at Fort Knox, Kentucky. Brandon was a passionate patriot and believed in God and Country. He had a wonderful sense of humor and would love to spend time with his friends and family telling jokes and making one another laugh. He loved the water and especially fishing, boating, frogging and crawfishing. Brandon's awards and decorations include: The Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Combat Action Badge, Driver and Mechanic Badge, and the Expert Marksmanship Badge. Cmdr. Col. W. Bryan Gamble presented the Purple Heart to Teeters on the evening of April 26.
