Clarissa was the daughter of Samel Biggerstaff and Martha Patsy Billings Biggertaff.

She married John Ray on 31 December 1829 in Hamilton County, Illinois. She and her husband were charter members of Union Church of General Baptists, also known as Brush Harbor Church, and their son Arden William Allen was the one who donated the land for Old Brush Harbor Cemetery.
