Gordon "C" Crandall, age 83, passed away Friday, Feb. 20, 2015 at his home in Cedar City, Utah.
He was born to Clifford H Crandall and Grace Aleda Christensen on July 23,1931. He was raised on a dairy farm in Springville, Utah. He graduated from Springville High, taking state in tennis. and graduated BYU, taking WAC honors in tennis. He was employed by US Conservation Service, loved soils and looked forward to going to work every day. He spent 36 years mapping soils in Weber, Millard, Beaver. Iron, Washington, Garfield and Kane counties. He has lived in Ogden, Fillmore, and Cedar City where many wonderful, and lasting friends were made.
In 1952 Gordon was drafted into the Marine Corps. He served his country on the front lines in Korea. He married Sharon Clayson Sept 16,1954 in the Salt Lake Temple. They had 60 wonderful years together and 5 beautiful children: Annet (Terry) Jackson, Cedar City, UT; Kevin Gordon (Carla) Bunkerville, NV; Brent Leo (Paula) Crandall, LaVerkin, UT; Clay Martin (Lorie) Crandall, Spanish Fork, UT; Mark Clifford (Sheri) Crandall, Bunkerville, NV; 24 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. The joy of his life was watching his children and grandchildren in their activities. He was so proud of them. Gordon loved to serve whether it was Elders Quorum presidency, athletic director for ward, stake, or region, dutch oven dinners for the ward or High Priest Group Leader.
He loved spending time in the mountains where many family reunions, birthday parties and other family gatherings were enjoyed. He is survived by Gary Crandall, brother; Marilyn Reed, sister; and Marilyn Crandall, sister-in-law. Preceded in death by Clifford H Crandall, father; Grace Christensen, mother; Lynn Crandall, brother; George Crandall, twin brother who died at birth; Clifford Crandall, brother; Martin Reed, brother-in-law; and Hudson Crandall, Great-Grandson.
Many thanks to his children and grandchildren, Brenda Bentley, Tyler Brinkerhoff, Dr. Mark Corry, his walking partner Lawrence Ashdown and special friend Joe Jackson who showed so much compassion during his illness.
Funeral services will be held Friday, February 27, 2015 at 11:00 am in the 2nd Ward Chapel, 256 S. 900 W, Cedar City. A viewing will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday, February 26th at Southern Utah Mortuary (Cedar City). On Friday, February 27th the viewing will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 am at the church. Interment will be Saturday February 28, 2015 at the Evergreen Cemetery in Springville, Utah at 1:00 pm under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary. Full military honors.
