In 1900, Daniel was living with Israel and Susana OVERLY, in Clay Township, Carroll County, Indiana, described as "grandson," with both parents born in Indiana. [NOTE: On the 1900 census, census taker first wrote "nephew" as relationship to head of household; then, wrote over heavily "grand son."]

In 1910, he was living in Madison Township, Carroll County, Indiana, married to Maggie O., 23, born in Indiana to Indiana-born parents. They had been married for three years, a first marriage for both. His work was described as "laborer, odd jobs." They had no children.

In September 1918, he was living in Ockley, Carroll County, Indiana, working as a laborer for Whiteman Brothers. He listed his nearest relative as Sarah C. Lucas, of Ockley.

In 1920, he was widowed, living with his mother in Deer Creek Township, Carroll County, Indiana. His mother was S. Catherine LUCAS, 61, born in Indiana. Daniel was working as a laborer, with "elevator" listed as the industry. He and his mother lived at 710 West Union.

On April 1, 1922, in Carroll County, Indiana, Daniel married Mary Alice DISINGER. According to the marriage record, his parents were Daniel Hufford and Sarah C. Overly, and his bride's parents were William Disinger and Alice J. Rohrabaugh.

In 1923, his wife Mary birthed a daughter, Vesta Jane, who died as an infant.

In 1930, he and his second wife (Mary) were living in Flora, Carroll County, Indiana, at 408 North Center. He was described as "electrician" for "meters."

In 1940, he and Mary were living at 441 East Main, in Delphi, Carroll County, Indiana. He was a "service man," with an 8th grade education, working 40 hours a week, and having worked 52 weeks in 1939.

In 1942, he lived at 723 E. Main, in Delphi, Carroll County, Indiana. He named Mary Alice Hufford of the same address as the person who would "always know" his address. He was employed by the Indiana Service Corporation, in Delphi.

Daniel's death certificate gives his father's name as "Daniel A. Hufford"; the information is clearly typed on the death certificate. The informant was "Mary A. Hufford," likely the widow.

********
Regarding who Daniel's father was, according to his marriage record to Mary Alice Disinger, his father was Daniel Hufford. On an index of the 1880 U.S. Census, only two Daniel Huffords show in Indiana:

One is Daniel (1860-1935), son of Joseph, of Abraham, of Casper, of Christian b. 1716. In Ross Twp., Clinton Co., Indiana.

One is Daniel E. (1869-1950), son of Andrew, of Abraham, of Casper, of Christian b. 1716. In Clay Twp., Carroll Co., Indiana.

Neither of those men appears to be a fit.
