Army and Navy Heroes Among Those Called by Grim Reaper

During the war year of 1917....Lieut. Stanton Frederick Kalk, well known in Washington, a native of Omaha, Nebr., who went down with the Jacob Jones, the destroyer which was torpedoed and sunk by a German submarine in foreign water December 6. He was the first man from the District to lose his life in a naval action since the United States entered the war.
