Funeral Services for Erma Hunter, 91, will
be 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, February 24, 2015
at the First Christian Church in Cleo
Springs, Oklahoma. The Reverends Roy
Wahlgren and Connie Schlarb will
officiate. Burial will follow in the Aline Star
Cemetery, Aline, Oklahoma, under the
direction of the Fairview Funeral Home,
Inc.
Erma (Rogers) Hunter was born on February 14, 1924 in Homestead,
Oklahoma to Ira and Ethel Mae (Bessey) Rogers and passed away February
19, 2015 at the Fairview Fellowship Home.
She attended Cleo Springs High School and graduated with the Class of
1941. On September 17, 1949 Erma and Vernon Hunter were united in
marriage at her parents’ home in Cleo Springs. To this union was born one
daughter, Sandra Sue. Erma worked for the telephone company and for the
Oklahoma Historical Society-Sod House until her retirement. She and
Vernon enjoyed many bus tours and traveled extensively for as long as their
health allowed. They celebrated 50 years of marriage in 1999. In 2010 she
moved into the assisted living section of the Fairview Fellowship Home and
in 2013 moved into the Fairview Fellowship Home. She was an avid
gardener and provided lovely bouquets for Sunday Services at church.
Erma loved to sew lap blankets for others. Some of the blankets were sent to
Africa which she was very proud of. Erma was a very active member of the
First Christian Church in Cleo Springs. She also was active as a volunteer
at the Fairview Hospital, Aline-Cleo School and enjoyed the Cleo Senior
Citizen Center. She was loved and will be missed by many.
Erma leaves to mourn her passing; one daughter, Sandra (Hunter)
Whittenburg and husband Jackie of Cleo Springs, OK, two grandsons,
Roger Whittenburg of Fairview, OK and Matthew Whittenburg of Enid, OK,
one sister-in-law, Maxine and the late Gene Hunter of Muskogee, OK and
many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Vernon.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Cleo Springs First Christian
Church or the Fairview Fellowship Home.
