About a month after SGT Keith Kirk turned 30 years old, he saw action in one of the most important and decisive battles of World War II, the Battle of the Bulge. "The Battle of the Bulge, also known as the Ardennes Offensive, was the last major German offensive campaign on the Western Front during World War II. The battle lasted for five weeks from 16 December 1944 to 28 January 1945, towards the end of the war in Europe. It was launched through the densely forested Ardennes region between Belgium and Luxembourg. " Seventy eight years since that battle ended, an e-mail was sent through the ancestry site findagrave with the following message:

Keith W Kirk - serial number : 39001231 ( NARA )
Madam, Sir,

I am secretary of the 505PIR - 82nd Airborne Association of Belgium ( battle of the bulge)
Our association is a member of the C-47 Chapter of Belgium and Normandy.

The goal of our association is to commemorate our liberators by participating in official ceremonies, meetings with veterans and their families.

We are sentinel of honor at the cemeteries of Henri-Chapelle and Neuville-en-Condroz.

We also work to search and identify objects that we find on our land of Belgium.

We recently found this M36 US ARMY bag that belonged to Private Kirk, Keith, W - 39001231. a member of your family?

He returned to the United States after the war and died in Sacramento.

Could you help us or provide additional information to further our research on this soldier?

We look forward to hearing from you.
