While living in Fairmont of Marion County, West Virginia, a marriage license was issued to Edwin and Lillian Charlotte Radford on 29 June 1927 in Marion County, but the Minister's Endorsement or Return was not completed, so the actual date and location of the wedding ceremony are unknown. According to his World War I Draft Registration in 1917, he was married and a medical student, so he had at least one other marriage prior to marrying Lillian. In the 1930 and 1940 Censuses he and his family were living in Jenkins, Letcher County, Kentucky, and on Dr. Sheppard's death certificate in 1941, Jenkins was listed as the deceased's residence, even though he died in West Virginia.
